ABC on Thursday announced a series order for Five to Survive, a new hour-long game show from executive producer Ricky Gervais.
Per our sister site Deadline, each episode will feature adult contestants who must answer 10 questions correctly to win a cash prize. If he or she is unable to come to an answer, they can then turn to a group of five kids who have been asked the same question by none other than Gervais.
Though Gervais will interact with the kids, presumably in pre-taped segments, he will not serve as host. The search for an emcee, who will join the adult contestants live in studio, is still underway.
The order for Five to Survive hardly comes as a surprise. ABC recently had success with game shows $100,000 Pyramid, Match Game and Celebrity Family Feud, all of which have been renewed. The network has also commissioned a revival of The Gong Show, to be executive-produced by Arrested Development alum Will Arnett.
Do you have room on your busy TV-viewing schedule for another ABC game show?
This sounds so much like Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader.
I was interested in applying to be a contestant until I realized the same thing.
I was thinking the same thing too Brian.
IMO Anything spontaneous with kids won’t do well in prime time. When people get home from work and want to relax only their own children are engaging.
Gervais is out of ideas. That has been clear for quite some time. He needs Merchant.
LOL, have you seen “Derek”?
