ABC is teaming with Mark Burnett for a reality show that brings some travel and adventure back to the genre.
The network is set to announce Expedition Impossible, where small teams solve problems while racing around the world. (Basically, it’s The Amazing Race with three-man teams, though Burnett would point to his own Eco Challenge as the better comparison).
“I love high adventure television, and I am so excited to be working with ABC in bringing an epic ‘Indiana Jones’-style experience to the viewers,” Burnett said.
Reality shows embraced such lavish high-concept ideas early on (like Burnett’s Survivor and Race), but in recent years have opted for less-expensive studio-based and self-contained ideas.
The show is planned for summer.
