ABC has turned to Taylor Swift to help promote the return of its TGIT-branded lineup of Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder.
Timed with the release of Swift’s new single “Look What You Made Me Do,” the network on Thursday night rolled out the 30-second promo set to the catchy tune.
Swift is a noted Grey’s Anatomy superfan — one of her cats is named Meredith, after star Ellen Pompeo’s character on the Shonda Rhimes medical drama. The new TGIT promo is not Swift’s first role in Shondaland — Grey’s Anatomy featured Swift’s “White Horse” in the season five premiere. What’s more, Pompeo was among the cameos in Swift’s “Bad Blood” video. (It also helps that Rhimes is also a big Swift fan, too.)
Also of note, ABC’s Twitter accounts for all three shows used Swift-related hashtags Thursday to join the discussion about both the single as well as the forthcoming album, “Reputation.”
So while the new TGIT promo does not feature new footage from the forthcoming seasons of Grey’s, Scandal or How to Get Away With Murder, at least it offers another excuse to hear “Look What You Made Me Do.”
