Tiger Woods is ready to return to the golf course.
Woods will play for the first time since mid-May when he tees it up next week at the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio from Aug. 3-7.
“Feeling fit and ready to tee it up at Firestone next week,” Woods tweeted late Thursday afternoon. “Excited to get back out there!”
CBS, obviously pleased to have the audience-grabbing Woods in the field, will televise the weekend rounds, with Golf Channel handling the first two. Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, winner of the U.S. Open, is also in the 59-player field. There is no cut in the invitational tournament, so all players advance to the weekend.
Woods hasn’t played since he withdrew from the Players Championship after nine holes on May 12 after injuring his left medial collateral and left Achilles tendon. He came back too soon after getting hurt at the Masters in April, and he missed the U.S. Open and the British Open.
Woods has won seven times at Firestone.
