Larry Tu has been named senior exec veep and chief legal officer of CBS Corp., succeeding the retiring Louis J. Briskman.

Tu, who will oversee all legal matters related to CBS and its divisions, will migrate from Dell in January, based in Los Angeles and reporting to CBS Corp. prexy and CEO Leslie Moonves. Tu spent nine years at Dell, and before that served as NBC Universal general counsel for three years, overseeing the Peacock’s pickup of Telemundo, Bravo and Universal.

“Larry possesses a deep understanding of how the law intersects with intellectual property, copyright and content distribution, as well as other issues facing our industry,” Moonves said. “He brings to this position a unique combination of experiences at the highest court of the land, as well as in finance, M&A, entertainment, government regulation, litigation and technology.”

Briskman announced his retirement Monday after more than 30 years with CBS.
