Fred Savage has signed on to direct and exec produce IFC’s scripted laffer “Garfunkel and Oates.”
Production on the series, which was created by and stars comedy-folk duo Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci, begins today in Los Angeles. It’s set to bow in late summer.
IFC has ordered eight half-hours of the show that follows the pair’s misadventures and their reliance on each other and a few songs to get through their personal and professional struggles.
Savage, the “Wonder Years” star whose helming credits include “Modern Family,” “2 Broke Girls,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and “Party Down,” will helm all eight episodes of the debut season.
“Fred is one of today’s hottest comedy directors and he’s a huge addition to ‘Garfunkel and Oates’ as both series director and executive producer. We’re thrilled to have him at the helm of this smart new comedy,” IFC prexy Jennifer Caserta said.
Garfunkel and Oates (Lindhome and Micucci) have also garnered a strong following as comedic songstresses who aren’t afraid to sing about what others may be too polite to say.
