Hulu is adding The CW to its live TV streaming service.
The streamer announced that the young-skewing network — a joint venture between CBS Corporation and Warner Bros. Entertainment — is the fifth major broadcast network to join its recently launched live TV streaming service. Subscribers to Hulu’s beta Live TV plan will soon be able to watch any primetime CW series, as well as local station programming.
“The CW has long attracted younger audiences to live TV, so we are very happy to offer the network through Hulu’s new live service,” Tim Connolly, Hulu‘s senior vp strategic partnerships and distribution, said Monday in a statement.
Added Chris Brooks, The CW’s executive vp network distribution: “The CW is excited to be a part of Hulu’s groundbreaking new live TV service. This new partnership furthers our goal of expanding our audience across digital platforms.”
Subscribers will have access to The CW’s programming slate, including fall shows Valor and Dynasty, new teen drama Riverdale and the long-running fantasy series Supernatural, along with DC titles Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Arrow and The Flash. Viewers can also tune into the network’s critically acclaimed shows like Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. VOD episodes of The CW’s current season series will soon be available to Hulu for Live TV subscribers.
In January, Hulu made pacts with CBS, A+E Networks, 21st Century Fox, Walt Disney Co., Turner Networks and NBCUniversal for its Live service. NBCU was the lone broadcast holdout for the service until the two companies reached a deal in May, days before the streamer officially launched the plan. HGTV, Travel Channel and Food Network are also available to stream on the platform.
Hulu is the only pay TV service to offer live and on-demand programming from more than 50 sports, news, entertainment and kids channels — in addition to the streamer’s entire streaming library with limited commercials — for $40 per month. The plan includes 50 hours of Cloud DVR recording storage, up to six individual profiles and two simultaneous streams per account, with options to upgrade to an enhanced Cloud DVR with 200 hours of storage and unlimited in-home concurrent screens. Hulu also offers premium network add-ons for HBO, Cinemax and Showtime.
