IFC will continue to be the TV home for comedian Marc Maron. The cable network has commissioned a fourth season of his semi-autobiographical comedy.
A 13-episode order, with production set to start in January, Maron is expected to make its IFC return later in 2016. “I got the character of me into a bit of trouble last season,” said Maron. “I hope I can get him back on track. The real me is doing fine.”
Maron, like much of the IFC roster, has struggled to capture a linear audience. The August finale averaged a modest 192,000 viewers, 104,000 of them adults 18-49, even with an additional three days of DVR.
“Marc is easily one of the most audacious comedians around today, and his pervasive sense of angst and unease is something we can all relate to and can’t stop watching,” said IFC president Jennifer Caserta. “His take on society, and himself, is completely unfiltered and authentic and manifests into great comedic storytelling. We’re thrilled to renew Maron for a fourth season and look forward to more comic mayhem.”
Maron (the man, not the show) is an incredibly valuable name to have associated with a network. The influential comedian and interviewer saw his profile continue to rise in 2015, most notably with the surprise booking of President Obama on his WTF podcast.
The third season of Maron will join the first two on Netflix on Dec. 28.
