The November sweep was a good one for the duopoly of CBS 2 and KCAL 9 in Los Angeles, with all of its evening newscasts posting ratings gains.

In Nielsen estimates heading into Wednesday (covering 27 of the sweep’s 28 nights), KCAL 9 remained the top-rated 10 p.m. news program on a Monday-Friday basis, with its average audience of 156,000 representing an 18% gain compared to the year ago ratings period. It was followed by KTLA (127,000) and KTTV (77,000).

On a Monday-Sunday basis, KCAL drew 147,000 viewers (up 16%) vs. 122,000 for KTLA and 74,000 for KTTV.

This marks the tenth victory in the last 13 major sweep periods (dating back to November 2010) for KCAL 9.

CBS 2 also delivered year-to-year growth in total viewers with its 6 a.m. (up 21%) newscast, while KCAL 9 posted gains at 2 p.m. (up 45%), 3 p.m. (up 15%), 8 p.m. (up 7%) and 9 p.m. (up 16%).

In the highly watched 7-9 a.m. window, CBS 2 lagged its rivals, but the station’s telecast of “CBS This Morning” drew 47% more weekday viewers than last November (74,650 vs. 50,700) — making it the biggest gainer among local stations during the time period. “Good Morning America” on KABC 7 (213,500, down 12%) and “KTLA News at 10” (208,900) were the market leaders.
