Chelsea Handler‘s Netflix talk show may be a ways off, but the streamer is taking early advantage of their new relationship by debuting its first of several planned specials with the comedian. Netflix confirmed Thursday that a taping of Handler’s latest tour, Uganda Be Kidding Me, will debut on Oct. 10. That comes just over a month after Handler officially signs off from her E! talk show, Chelsea Lately. The cable network recently confirmed that her swan song will air on Aug. 26 after seven years with the cable network. After hinting that her departure from E! was imminent earlier in the year, speculation loomed about where the comedian would land next before news arrived of her rich deal with Netflix.
Handler’s new talk venture won’t debut until 2016, but she’s set to release four docucomedy specials on Netflix between now and then.
And she’s not alone on the streamer’s comedy roster. Specials for Jim Jefferies (Aug. 29), Chelsea Peretti (Nov. 14) and Bill Cosby (Nov. 28) are also now on the schedule.
“Jim Jefferies, Chelsea Handler, Bill Cosby, Bill Burr and Chelsea Peretti are some of the funniest comedians of our time who will have our viewers in stitches,” said Netflix vp original doc and comedy programming Lisa Nishimura. “We are thrilled to bring this diverse slate of talent and their unique, multifaceted and hilarious points of view exclusively to our members around the world.”
Netflix continues to build its standup brand while original scripted series take much of the attention. Aziz Ansari special Buried Alive got an exclusive run on the streamer in 2013.
