HBO has entered into a first-look television deal with Nikki Finke for material from her showbiz fiction website Hollywood Dementia.
Under the pact, which was put in motion at the beginning of the year, the premium cable network will have first crack at developing projects based on the short stories published on Hollywood Dementia. The TV adaptations will be produced by Finke and Killer Films’ Christine Vachon.
Finke, a preeminent entertainment journalist who founded Deadline Hollywood and served as its editor-in-chief for 7 years, launched Hollywood Dementia — a free website devoted to short fiction about showbiz — in August 2015.
Hollywood Dementia’s library now includes more than 300 stories from more than 100 writers — mostly Hollywood insiders — with the site serving as an incubator of source material for potential screen treatments.
Given her extensive Hollywood background and expertise, a showbiz-focused fiction website was a natural new venue for Finke after almost three decades as a entertainment business reporter. She is now considering expanding into other areas of fiction in the future.
Finke was repped in the HBO deal by Robb Rothman of The Rothman Brecher Agency and attorney Jim Jackoway.
