A+E Networks has named Nancy Dubuc’s successor.
Some four months after Dubuc abruptly vacated for the top job at Vice, one of her top executives, Paul Buccieri, has been elevated to group president. The news follows an expedited rise through the management ranks for Buccieri, a former head of ITV Studios’ U.S. Group, who first joined the company in early 2015. Though Buccieri lacks Dubuc’s public profile, he was seen as the likely internal candidate for the top job following Dubuc’s departure. In the interim, Dubuc’s predecessor, Abbe Raven, had stepped in to ensure the company ran smoothly.
In a joint statement, Hearst’s Steven R. Swartz and ABC/Disney’s Ben Sherwood lathered their new chief with praise: “[Paul is] a proven leader, strong collaborator and skilled programmer with an eye for identifying trends in the very competitive content marketplace. As we make this announcement, we also thank A+E Acting Chairman Abbe Raven for her leadership during the transition and her assistance in identifying Paul as the network’s next leader. Abbe will remain in her role at least through year-end.”

Buccieri added, “I want to sincerely thank our board members at Disney and Hearst for offering me this exceptional opportunity to lead A+E Networks during this transformative time in media. I could not be prouder of A+E’s powerful brands, strong partnerships and, most importantly, the talented people I get to work with every day. We look forward to expanding on our solid foundation of creativity.”
Buccieri began his tenure at the New York-based cable network as president of two of its leading networks, A&E and History, three-and-a-half years ago. Not long after, he added oversight of the group’s growing studio arm, a job previously held by longtime A+E executive Bob DeBitetto. In Friday’s announcement, Buccieri was given the president title, which gives him oversight of a group that includes A&E, History and Lifetime, but not the CEO one formerly held by Dubuc. Nevertheless, given the fragile state of the pay-TV ecosystem, particularly for basic cable networks, he will have his work cut out for him.
