MSNBC’s Greta Van Susteren Tells President Trump to ‘Back Off’ Media
Greta Van Susteren closed out her Presidents’ Day broadcast with some strong words for the current commander-in-chief.
Just days after President Trump referred to the media as “the enemy of the American people,” the Fox News-turned-MSNBC host fired back Monday on her new show, For the Record With Greta.
“Mr. President, back off,” Van Susteren told POTUS, after calling his ongoing feud with the media “out of control” and “dangerous.”
She continued: “You have a powerful platform, but it is dead wrong to rev up your loyal base with incorrect, generalized and wide-sweeping inflammatory statements about the entire media. That does not advance a well-needed, robust debate. And it is not what the drafters of the First Amendment had in mind when they added ‘free speech’ and ‘free press’ to the Constitution.”
Van Susteren isn’t the first host to speak directly to President Trump during a broadcast. On Feb. 16, Fox News anchor Shepard Smith called out POTUS for his lack of transparency about Russia: “We have a right to know, we absolutely do, and that you call us ‘fake news’ and put us down like children for asking this question is inconsequential.”

Seriously, name one thing in her statement that is not accurate. Press does need to double check their facts and #45 needs to check his before spewing alternative facts. If he was so smart, as he claims to be, he would have actually check to see if Fox was correct, which guess what they weren’t. Fox might be highly viewed that doesn’t make them trustworthy, but I know you won’t comprehend that.

You’re walking a very thin line here with semantics. You know damn well what he means. And *sometimes* he calls out certain media. But we all know that many times he just uses the term broadly and doesn’t specify. When he does specify, it’s only those outlets who are asking legitimate questions and (sometimes) have verifiably proof of something that he still denies. He hasn’t gone after Fox lately because they’re the Republican talking head. Though I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before he starts going after them, too, since people at Fox, like Shep Smith and Chris Wallace, are starting to call out Trump and his surrogates. Soon, the only outlet he won’t be attacking is the FAKE NEWS Breitbart, which of course used to be run by Trump’s right-hand racist Steve Bannon.
Her statement is accurate. And if you paid attention to the article, Fox news has anchors calling out Trump, as well.

Oh you are so wrong. They never called him out during the primaries, which was a big mistake. However; it is clear to see that probably wouldn’t have made a difference because many obviously didn’t care that they voted for a clueless sexual predator who is not all there. It wasn’t a “mistake”, it was a tactical decision aimed at helping Hillary Clinton win the Presidency. They propped up Trump and gave him 2 BILLION dollars in free advertising, drowning out everyone else in the Republican primary. When he wrapped up the nomination, they turned quickly against him, just as everyone knew would happen. Nobody in their right mind thought that Trump could win a national election, even against an incredibly flawed candidate like Clinton. What most people (including myself) failed to realize was that these were the two worst Presidential candidates in the modern era, we just got the order wrong: Clinton #1, Trump #2.
On the bright side, if Trump gets ousted we will have Pence who is still better than Hillary.

Trump does it to himself. He and his administration continuously makes up events–events that are constantly proven as made up–just to suit his narrative of fear mongering. He attacks the press in a way that is bordering on unconstitutional. The majority of Americans disapprove of the job he is doing, which is unheard of this early into a presidency. Over 70% of Americans want to see his tax returns to verify if there are shady dealing or not, so until he does, of course the American people and press are going to continue writing stories that keep coming out about foreign ties until he once and for all puts an end to them…..unless he’s not releasing them because he can’t put an end to the stories.

The First Amendment states: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”
Absolutely nowhere in the Constitution does it say you cannot criticize the press. Criticism is protected by the First Amendment. You can dislike the criticism, as Greta clearly does, but it’s not against the law. Obama criticized Fox News dozens of times during speeches and press conferences, by the way.
You know what else Obama did? In 2010 he had his Justice Department spy extensively on Fox News reporter James Rosen, collecting his telephone records, tracking his movements in and out of the State Department and seizing two days of his personal emails. An FBI agent also accused Rosen of breaking the anti-espionage law with his investigative reporting. The entire news media was outraged and came to his defense. The Obama administration seized two months of telephone records of reporters and editors at the Associated Press. Obama stated that his White House was justified because they were investigating possible national security-related leaks.
Greta was outraged, of course. Everyone in the media was. But there was no TVLine item, was there? Compare what the Obama administration did with Trump calling news outlets “fake news” and, well, there really is no comparison. What millions of people would like to see is the respectable reporters and editors getting even just a little pissed off at their counterparts who print stories that have no sources, headlines inspired by the tabloids, and slanted views and opinions instead of solid facts.
Quick question was any of the news reports lies? I will answer NO. So it is not fake when it speaks the truth. Look at the Nixon year and the history there you might see some resemblance between the two.
Of course you can criticise the press. But when the President criticises all of the press, except the few outlets that support him, and when he attacks them to the extent that he does not say he disagrees but says they are lying and printing fake news (which is, matter how you look at it, patently untrue), then you have a problem, which is that he wants to attack the foundation of the concept of freedom of the press in order to increase his own influence and power (and suggest that his view is the only correct one). It’s only a very small leap from there to Government-controlled media and propoganda.

After all, there are plenty of countries where the Government speaks ‘directly to the people’ without going through an intermediary like the free press. Those countries are not the ones we normally consider free.

As usual these days, the liberal press gets things wrong and not the president. Do a little research Greta and you will find that all of Europe is in trouble with refugees and the crimes they are committing. The President is right and I think he should ban all Muslims forever from this country. They have a 5th century mindset, particularly where it concerns women and they don’t “integrate” into society. They need to stay in their own culture in their own country.
