As of the end of March, FiOS TV had 4.9 million total subscribers. The service competes with cable and satellite TV operators. Verizon’s results kicked off the latest earnings season for pay TV companies.
Verizon also added 188,000 net new FiOS broadband subscribers in the first quarter, bringing its total to 5.6 million. Its total broadband user base, including DSL customers, reached 8.9 million.
Verizon’s quarterly earnings of $1.95 billion was up 16 percent from the year-ago period. First-quarter revenue rose 4.2 percent to $29.4 billion.
