Veteran 7 News anchor Susan Banks' final broadcast on WKBW will take place at 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 13.

Banks, who co-anchors the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. news with Keith Radford, first joined the station in 1977. She departed in 1981 and returned in 1990.

"Ms. Banks made a personal decision to resign her position to consider other professional opportunities," said WKBW General Manager Bill Ransom. " I wish her the very best."

Banks, who has taught college communications classes, plans to start an image-consulting business.

Banks' broadcasting accolades are many, including the 2002 New York State Governor's Award for Excellence in Communication and an Associated Press award for a series inspired by her own battle with breast cancer.

Her charitable interests include the Literacy Volunteers of America, the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame, AIDS Alliance, the American Cancer Society and the SPCA.

"The viewers in Buffalo and Western New York are the greatest," Banks said. "They welcomed me home, supported me as I battled back from breast cancer, and always offered their thoughts and opinions."
