The Talk is about to get a whole new View on things this week: Rosie O’Donnell is set to guest-host this Friday’s episode of the CBS daytime chatfest — which has a hosting chair to fill following Julie Chen‘s sudden departure.
O’Donnell tweeted the news out on Wednesday, along with a photo of her flanked by The Talk co-hosts Sheryl Underwood, Sara Gilbert and Sharon Osbourne:
this friday i will be guest hosting with the ladies of @TheTalkCBS – dont miss it !! ❤️♥️❤️ pic.twitter.com/TxfbydksqA

According to our sister site Deadline, insiders put O’Donnell firmly in the running to replace Chen, who left the show last week after her husband Les Moonves was fired as CBS chairman and CEO following a number of sexual harassment allegations. Dancing With the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba, who will guest-host along with O’Donnell on Friday’s episode, is also considered a contender for Chen’s spot.
O’Donnell, of course, has plenty of daytime TV experience: She hosted her popular self-titled talk show from 1996 to 2002, and went on to join the hosting panel of ABC’s The View in 2006. Her initial stint there grabbed headlines for her vehement opposition to the Iraq War and her on-air arguments with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck. O’Donnell left the show in 2007, and returned in 2014, only to exit again the following year in what she called a “personal decision.”
Is Rosie a good fit for The Talk? Tell us what you think about her joining the panel in a comment below.
Hells No! Especially after that homophobic slur against Lindsay Graham. She doesn’t have special rights to use slurs.
This would be a bad move for the Talk. . .that is unless Sara Gilbert and the others are tired of doing the show and want to speed up its demise.
if that is the case, then bringing on Rosie McDonnell wil be a great way to kill the show.
Well said.👍
I’ve really enjoyed watching The Talk. If Rosie ODonald is going to be a guest of the show I refuse to let my children and grandchildren watch it. She has a nasty and vulgar mouth. I don’t care about her personal life but being an influence on my families I will not allow. Why doesn’t she just go back to the view.
Julie Chan you are a very classy lady. I don’t know if it’s true about your husband but it shouldn’t reflect on you.Don’t let this cruel world bring you down.
Oh the shade is real, if they are considering bringing her on.
While she has the experience, if they are going for diversity, Rosie would be a bad choice.
I can’t imagine her leaving New York for this. And The Talk never really likes to be controversial. I think they’ll have fun with her, but she won’t be the replacement.
Rosie is an unhinged lunatic
you must be a republican
Amen brother!
That is one frosty pose by Sharon. Rosie won’t be joining if Sharon has anything to say about it.
I think she would be a great addition. She knows what she is doing. Always enjoyed her on her own show. Go for it Rosie!
Only if your tired of the show being on. Rosie will turn the show into a political disaster. We don’t watch it for politics!!!!
I really hope not she is a freaking joke.
If Rosie joins the talk, Everyone should say their goodbyes now because that show will not last.
Rosie turnee down her dream job of hosting The Price Is Right because it tapes in California. She’s not doing The Talk permanetly. She’s a life long proud New Yorker!
I’m out.
Heck YEEES! Rosie is AWESOME…She is the real deal…honest..compassionat..concerned about ALL humanity, not just the rich ones. And she is hazardous! A REAL JOY! LOVE OVE LOVE HER. I don’t watch the talk now…but I sure will with ROSIE!
She’d be a deathknell for the show. The show really needs a host who’s either Asian or Latino, not another white woman.
As much as I vehemently disagree with Rosie politically, this would be genius on CBS’s part.
Rosie came to The View and made it political, for which it won an Emmy in 2009.
The Talk has been slipping in ratings, she’ll surely boost them.
I say bring her on so the show isn’t so boring!
Have watched The Talk since started. If they choose Rosie over some of the regular guest hosts like Carnie and Carrie. Will be one viewer less and actually there are probably lots if viewers who think the same. She was terrible on the view why would it be any different on The Talk
Rosie is just a third-round draft pick filling a need until they can find a real star that the audience will root for. Excuse the vagueness but I’m dying to talk about Grey’s Anatomy S15 episodes 1 and 2. There’s love, death, dogs, and LOTS of sex and finally a character who talks like me (i.e. lots of sports metaphors). Oh, and there’s a surprising new interm Chief of Surgery filling in for Bailey – someone who will be good but will in no way outshine her (you know just a third round draft pick).
OMG, READ HER RESUME before you do this, ABC! Check her references! At the very least, Google her!
Well, I can stop watching this show now–even on “temporary” I won’t watch. I’ve had enough of her drivel to last me a lifetime. I use to be a fan, all I can say now is, nope…..
For The Love Of God And All Things Holy Do Not Give This Freak Another 15 Minutes Of Glory. Keep It Classy Go With Carrie Ann Inaba
My view point exactly. Could not have said it better. Go with Inaba.
Yes! A great choice.
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!
The Talk‘s brand of social rhetoric has always been more personal than political, whereas Rosie O’Donnell’s rhetorical tone has generally been more explicitly political and less collegial. I don’t see O’Donnell as a good fit with the remaining Talk panel; Carrie Ann Inaba would definitely be a better candidate in terms of chemistry. If Connie Chung is available and interested, she’d also be a good prospect. If I were recruiting, I’d at least ask Meredith Vieira, but she’s also unlikely to relocate westward for that gig.
One other factor: if The Talk was seriously interested in picking up new eyeballs as a side benefit of switching hostesses, I’d expect the real top tier of candidates to skew much younger than the names we’ve been tossing around; they ought to be looking for someone closer in age to Molly Quinn than to Melissa Joan Hart. (Emma Watson would be a brilliant pick, but she’s almost certainly far too busy to actually want the job.)
Any dealings with O’Donnell as dumb as trying to pick up a turd by the clean end.
I don’t believe she’s a good fit for the show.
Absolutely not. She is way to extreme. I have found the show such a welcome relief from the “screaming” type shows.
Break out the Lithium, she’s back.
