KTUL news anchor Yvonne Lewis is retiring from television news.
But she hasn’t yet decided what’s next.
“I don’t know exactly,” said Lewis, a native Tulsan who graduated from the University of Oklahoma and received her master of divinity degree from Phillips Theological Seminary in May 2012. “I’m like a blank canvas. I have surrendered to God and am allowing him to complete his masterpiece.
“I will say this is definitely a faith walk.”
Lewis joined Tulsa’s ABC-affiliated KTUL in 1986 and is well-known for her community service. She served on the boards of the Family Safety Center, Stand in the Gap Ministries and Monte Cassino School; co-founded the Tulsa chapter of the Association of Black Journalists; and is president and founder of the nonprofit My Kidz International mentoring and service organization.

Her volunteer work includes working with incarcerated women, mentoring children in Tulsa public schools, church consulting, pastoral counseling, working in a community garden and picking up litter, according to press information.
Her last on-air appearance will be in September, but the date is yet to be announced. There is also no mention of her replacement on the weekend news.
“The newsroom will have tough shoes to fill,” says Pat Baldwin, KTUL general manager. “She has been a valuable member of our team for decades, adding just the right mix of sensitivity and humor to the job. We really will miss her.”
KTUL, channel 8, is among the stations Allbritton Communications Company sold to Sinclair Broadcast Group in 2013. The sale was approved by federal regulators on July 25 and closed by Sinclair on Aug. 1.
