NBC has handed the expected early renewals to its stronger drama series, freshmen Revolution and Chicago Fire as well as Parenthood, Grimm and veteran Law & Order: SVU. All have received full-season, 22-episode pickups.
NBC Renews ‘Parenthood’ & ’30 Rock’
NBC is bringing back two more series: dramedy Parenthood and comedy 30 Rock. As expected, the pickup of 30 Rock will be for a seventh and final season, and it is expected to be abbreviated one, consisting of 13-14 episodes.
It’s no sure bet the family drama, which ends its third season with ho-hum ratings, will be renewed, but it has much going for it.
‘New Girl’ Strongly Alluring In Week 2
Fox’s new comedy New Girl retained 92% of its audience in week two when it was broadcast on Tuesday. It averaged a 4.4 adults 18-49 rating at 9 p.m., down from a 4.8 for last week’s premiere.The show scored higher than its lead-in, Glee, which averaged a 3.6 rating, off from a 4.0 last week. A few shows on broadcast increased their results over last week among 18-49s, including NBC’s Parenthood (up 5% to a 2.2) and the CW’s 90210 (up 14% to a 0.8).
Modern Family received a 28% boost from DVR viewing in the season premiere week ratings. That’s according to an analysis of live-plus-same day versus live-plus-three-day ratings information. CSI, Law & Order: SVU and Parenthood were among the other shows that scored large percentage gains from delayed viewing.
NBC’s Fall Season Taking Shape

In its season finale, NBC’s Parenthood showed a ratings bump that should secure a third-season order. The drama won its timeslot against new ABC drama Body of Proof for the first time and drew its best rating since September. Parenthood averaged a 2.5 adults 18-49 rating at 10 p.m., up 19% from a 2.1 last week.

Fox’s terrific turn as a lawyer sparring with Julianna Margulies’ character on last night’s The Good Wife, the CBS drama dipped 8% from its most recent outing two weeks ago, averaging a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating at 10 p.m. Wife was just 0.1 ahead of NBC’s Parenthood, which drew its best 18-49 rating in just over a month, a 2.1.
