NBCU Gives Off-Net ’30 Rock’ Local Spins

[vzaarthumb:839883]To promote the broadcast syndication launch of the Tina Fey sitcom, NBCU Domestic Television engaged DG Entertainment and 2C Media to help it create a promotion campaign that had a number of goals: to introduce the show to each station’s audience; to emphasize its sharp and funny inside view of the TV buiness; and develop special local appeal through a series of custom, personalized spots.

What’s New For Syndication This Fall

Five first-run debuts include Anderson, Dr. Drew’s Lifechangers, Jeremy Kyle, Excused and On The Spot. They’re joined by off-network comedies including The Big Bang Theory, 30 Rock, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Futurama, premiering alongside television’s longest-running crime drama, Law & Order. On the weekend, there’s the nature-themed ABC Weekend Adventure and encores of hit ABC network shows with ABC Prime on the Weekends.

LIN: Local Shows Giving Syndie Competition

LIN TV CEO Vincent Sandusky joined the chorus of station-group executives suggesting that prices for syndicated programming may have reached an apex. Instead, replacing it with local programming can pull in higher ratings and boost the bottom line with the lower costs. As for off-network sitcoms, Sandusky indicated that syndicators are seeking inflated prices and longer contracts that could outlive a show’s popularity.

NBC Daytime Showing Progress This Season

The new offerings on the O&Os are delivering big percentage gains in the key demo, but the shows they replaced were notoriously poor performers. Bottom line is that syndicators like Warner Bros. (Anderson Cooper) and Sony (Lisa Oz)  that are looking for slots in major markets for next fall may be able to find them on the NBC stations.
