News Publishers Sound Alarm On Google’s New AI-Infused Search, Warn Of ‘Catastrophic’ Impacts

Google on Tuesday announced that it will infuse its ubiquitous search engine with its powerful artificial intelligence model, Gemini, drawing on the rapidly advancing technology to directly answer user queries at the top of results pages. On its surface that might sound convenient, but for news publishers — many of whom are already struggling with steep traffic declines — the revamped search experience will likely cause an even further decrease in audience, potentially starving them of readers and revenue. Within hours of the Mountain View announcement, the news industry began sounding the alarm.

Biden Vs. Trump Debate Set For Next Month On CNN

The current POTUS and the former president will meet on June 27 on CNN. The first match-up between the bitter political rivals will take place in Atlanta at 9 pm ET with no studio audience. The debate will air live not just on CNN, but also CNN International, CNN en Español, CNN Max and CNN.com. No word yet on who the moderators will be.

NBC Affiliates To Get Cut-Ins During Olympic Coverage To Promote Local News

NBC and its affiliates have worked out an arrangement that will give affiliates 90-second cut-ins during daytime network coverage of the Paris Olympic games. Affiliates will be able to use the cut-ins to promote their local news in front of Olympic-sized audiences. On some weekdays, the cut-ins will appear during an afternoon break at about 5 p.m. — around the time viewers would normally tune in to early-evening local news programming.
