Tegna Appoints GMs In Portland, Denver

The station group names Steve Carter president-GM of KGW Portland, while  Mark Cornetta adds to his corporate role to lead KUSA Denver.

Tegna on Friday announced Steve Carter, current president and general manager of NBC affiliate Denver (DMA 17), has been named to the same position at NBC affil KGW Portland, Ore. (DMA 22).

Carter will join KGW on Dec. 3. He replaces DJ Wilson, who is retiring. Mark Cornetta, EVP at Tegna, will assume the president-GM role at KUSA in addition to his current responsibilities.

Carter first joined KUSA in 1992 as promotion writer/producer and held numerous positions before becoming vice president of marketing. In 2011, Carter joined Tegna’s WCSH Portland, Maine. He rejoined KUSA in 2016 as president-GM.

“Steve’s outstanding creativity, passion for excellence and exceptional leadership abilities will help KGW continue providing its award-winning news and community service to Portland,” said Lynn Beall, Tegna EVP and COO of media operations.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Cornetta will add the title of president-GM of KUSA to his EVP responsibilities. In addition to Denver, Cornetta currently oversees operations in several other markets including KING Seattle, KARE Minneapolis and KPNX Phoenix. During his 30 years at Tegna, Cornetta has also held several sales positions at KUSA including general sales manager, local sales manager and national sales manager.

While he is intimately familiar with 9NEWS, he will work more closely with the team on a day-to-day basis to serve the community while continuing to excel in his other responsibilities,” said Beall.
