Sales Manager

Nexstar’s WAVY-TV (NBC) and WVBT (FOX) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Sales Manager in Norfolk, VA!

We are seeking a dynamic Sales Manager who will build on the success of our Broadcast and Digital sales team.

Having 3-5 years of television sales management experience is preferred, with 5+ years television sales experience mandatory.

Top candidates will have national sales manager experience as well as local sales manager experience inclusive of digital sales knowledge or digital sales management experience; excellent motivational leadership, and forecasting skills along with a proven track record of rate integrity and winning new business.

Our approach to local advertising is based on a multi-platform strategy utilizing the power of local television, our owned and operated digital assets as well as audience extension through OTT and CTV products.

Experience selling high profile sports is a plus. WAVY-TV and WVBT broadcasts Olympics, NFL, Major League Baseball, College Football, PGA, NASCAR, and many other sports.

Potential candidates should be experienced with Nielsen ratings, ComScore, Wide Orbit, and social media platforms.

  • The Sales Manager will be responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of our Local AEs including development of new business, achievement of TV and Digital revenue goals as well working with our new National Sales Office.  Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Provides leadership for the broadcast/digital sales teams.
  • Makes decisions regarding hiring, evaluation, promotion, and operation of account executives and sales assistants.
  • Develops and executes sales strategies which result in exceeding revenue targets in local, new business and digital revenue.
  • Drives new business development.
  • Manages inventory and revenue forecasting.
  • Manages recruitment, training, evaluation, and development of sales professionals.
  • Prepares budgets and approves budget expenditures.
  • Develops and cultivates client relationships alongside Account Executives
  • An effective Sales Manager should have a strong grasp of current digital marketing tools and strategies and social media platforms.
  • Must be able to lead integrated digital marketing campaigns from conception to execution.

Requirements & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising or Mass Communications, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
  • Minimum five years of media sales experience; management experience preferred; solid knowledge of digital technology including mobile and social media platforms.
  • Fluency in English
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Experience recruiting, guiding, directing, and motivating personnel, including setting and monitoring performance standards.
  • Experience establishing long-range objectives and specifying the strategies and actions to achieve them.
  • Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
  • Experience working with Political advertising is a plus.
  • Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, and other office equipment
  • Experience with Wide Orbit Traffic, Strata, Matrix, and comScore is preferred.

Senior News Producer

WAVY-TV 10/ WVBT FOX43 is searching for a dynamic SENIOR NEWS PRODUCER who wants to lead a top-notch team and tell compelling stories, dominate breaking news and severe weather coverage.

You would also work with the best resources in the market, like drones and a full-time news helicopter, while promoting the values of journalism on air, online and to social media all while living close to the beach.

We are looking for someone interested in being a leader and learning from a group of seasoned journalists.  Someone who has strong news judgment, is passionate about journalism, and has a proven ability to work with an award-winning team.

The successful candidate must have a demonstrated ability and willingness to produce newscasts with creativity and flair; this includes writing clear, concise copy on deadline, working under pressure, and showcasing great video and emotional sound, and easy to understand graphics. College degree or equivalent experience and 3-5 years mainline news producing experience preferred.

Overnights, nights and weekends may be required; candidate must be willing and able to work any and all shifts, including holidays.

Digital Video Producer

WAVY-TV 10 is looking for a Digital Video Producer to join our talented team.

A key member of the newsroom’s digital team, this digital video producer helps to produce and distribute live and edited video using various platforms, programs, and techniques.

The producer also curates interesting, accurate, informative, and high-performing content for our website, the station’s social media accounts and other digital products.

You will work alongside and collaborate with WAVY reporters, anchors, producers, and other members of the newsroom to create informative and important coverage for our audience across the Hampton Roads region.

You will have the opportunity to utilize state-of-the-art digital and television technology, video, and graphics.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Producing videos for digital-first and breaking news stories and edited reports, including various versions for social media
  • Assisting with live streaming of WAVY.com programs, breaking news, and special live coverage
  • Working in a fast-paced newsroom, contributing to the editorial process, supporting the digital team and digital goals.
  • Actively discovering, shooting, editing, and creating news content, including articles, photos, videos, social media posts, user-generated content, etc.
  • Training and supporting station staff with video projects and creative digital storytelling
  • Sharing local content to national outlets and other Nexstar Digital platforms across the country
  • Other duties as assigned

Specialized Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Video editing skills are a must. Ability to edit videos quickly and professionally for all platforms.
  • Knowledge and skill in online live streaming, social media, and YouTube publishing.
  • Collaborate with reporters, anchors, photojournalists, producers, promotions, sales, and engineering staff.
  • Proficient and savvy in social media platforms, tools, and best practices.
  • Strong news judgment, journalistic integrity and understanding of viewer needs and expectations.
  • Excellent verbal, written, grammatical and analytical skills.
  • Ability to meet quality standards throughout the editorial process.
  • Must be able to take feedback and work within a team.
  • Flexibility to work any shift, in a high-stress environment. Working occasional holidays and overtime may be required due to the news cycle.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, or related field; TV/film or equivalent experience may substitute 2+ years’ experience in digital publishing, television production.
