WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

‘Judge Judy’ For The Week And Season

The show’s triumph came despite its airing in relatively lightly viewed daytime periods and being hit with months of massive coronavirus coverage preemptions. It gave the wildly popular jurist first place in first-run syndication for a remarkable 11th year in a row with a 6.2 full-season rating as of the week ending Aug. 23, the latest for which national ratings are available. That was nearly triple the full-season rating of any other strip in the daypart.

Not even the coronavirus could stop Judge Judy. As syndicated shows put the wraps on Nielsen’s pandemic-plagued 2019-20 season, Judy has brought her gavel down on the year’s household rating championship.

The season’s next highest rated programs — Family Feud, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, in that order — were all shows airing in highly rated prime access time periods.

For the most recent week, which ended Aug. 3, there were only two top-tier shows moving up, Judge Judy, which grew 6% to a syndication-best 5.5, and Dr. Phil, which also added 6% to a 1.9.

Phil has been at the top of the talk show rankings every year since 2011, including a tie in 2015-16. As usual, Phil finished first in talk for the entire 2019-20 season in households with a 2.2 average, down 5% from the pre-COVID-19 level of last year at this time.

Live with Kelly and Ryan registered a 1.5 for the current week with mostly repackaged episodes, down 17% year to year.
