Scripps News Debuts New Summer Features On ‘Morning Rush’

Scripps News’ Morning Rush team is ready for summer with new weekly segments on beach books and summer travel, as well as a series of topical segments, featuring a line-up of nationally recognized experts as on-air contributors.

Starting the week of June 12, Morning Rush, which airs weekdays, 7 a.m.-noon ET, will debut segments featuring a new line up of expert contributors on the subject of health, personal finance, sports, parenting in addition to Friday’s summer travel feature.

The summer lineup includes:

“Beach Reads” gets viewers ready for sun and relaxation with award winning author Alison Gaylin, who is taking over the celebrated Sunny Randall detective series originally created by legendary mystery writer, Robert B. Parker. In the weeks following, “Beach Reads” will feature renowned baseball historian Marty Appel and his latest book, “Pinstripes by the Tale: Half a Century In and Around Yankees Baseball” and New York Times bestselling author Ace Atkins joins the show with the release of the 25th anniversary edition of his classic thriller, “Cross Roads Blues” among other popular authors.

“Playing the Game” on Mondays — Lenn Robbins, the content director at Bet Basics and a staple of the national sports scene alternates every week with former CNN sports anchor Paul Crane, on the latest trends in sports and the intersection of sports and pop culture.

Healthy Morning” on Tuesdays — Peter Pitts, the former associate commissioner of the U.S. Food & Drug Administration and now the president and co-founder of the Center for Medicine in the Public Interest will tackle the latest issues facing government and medicine. He will alternate with Dr. Jayne Morgan, the executive director of health and community at Piedmont Healthcare. Dr. Morgan will offer insights into everyday issues to live a healthy morning.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

“Money Rush” on Wednesdays — How to spend, how to save that is the focus of Ted Jenkin, the CEO of oXYGen Financial, Inc. who built his financial advising firm to offer “advice to the X & Y generations.” He alternates each week with ErikaBlair McGrew, a financial consultant with Advocacy Wealth Management. She and her company conduct “personal financial bootcamps helping people learn how to invest and grow their wealth.

“The Parent Spot” on Thursdays — New mother and “Morning Rush” anchor Alex Livingston will talk to a group of parenting specialists and authorities on the challenges of bringing up children in the 21st century.

“Summer Travel” on Fridays – Former USA Today reporter and the host of the popular YouTube series, PhotoWalksTV, Jefferson Graham takes viewers on his weekly road trips to points known (and some unknown) every Friday starting June 16. The summer series will not only take viewers to dream locations, but also show viewers how to use their phone cameras on location and how to slow down and enjoy the natural beauty that’s in front of them.  In addition, meteorologist Scott Withers will offer his “Rush to the Weekend” telling viewers about events they can attend across the USA.
