CTD Drops Jerry O’Connell Syndie Show
Man in the Middle will not make it to broadcast syndication in fall 2015, despite CBS Television Distribution already clearing the morning panel talk show fronted by Jerry O’Connell on numerous stations around the country, according to several sources.
CTD has been pitching Man in the Middle to station groups for months. The show has been well received by stations, some of whom say Jerry O’Connell — who has guest co-hosted shows like ABC’s The View — is an energetic, talented and likeable host. His co-hosts, including his wife Rebecca Romijn, were less polished but the show was still quite good, station general managers say.
It’s unclear at this time why CTD decided not to go forward. A CTD spokesperson had no comment.
The fate of Man in the Middle has been closely tied to Sony Pictures Television’s Queen Latifah, which is in its second season and which Sony hopes to stretch into at least a third season.
The CBS O&O are the major market outlet for Latifah. Had they opted for Man in the Middle, they would likely have bounced Latifah to make room for it.
A spokesperson for Sony did not return calls.

If NBC would cut ‘The Today Show’ back to 2 hours, mornings would be available (the last 2 hours of ‘Today’ are totally useless).

Wasn’t he to be the lead in NBC’s Rockford Files that got dumped? Too bad…seems like a good guy but just can’t get a grip on something that can work.

I’m disappointed by this! He is so funny when guest co-hosting on The View or Kelly and Michael. I’ve actually been a fan of his for awhile…for those who say his name is the kiss of death for a new show, this has only been the case in recent years. Before that he had long runs on the show Sliders and Crossing Jordan (of which I feel was his finest work). I think Carpoolers would have taken off if not for the writers strike in 2008. Hilarious show. I also can’t see why The Defenders didn’t make it. He is a talented actor who maybe just needs to catch on with an already established show.
