JP Bommel Named New NATPE COO

The former vice president of business development for Reed Midem will take over as managing director and chief operating officer of NATPE//Content First in September.

JP Bommel, former vice president of business development, entertainment for Reed Midem, has been named managing director and chief operating officer of NATPE//Content First. The announcement was made today by Rod Perth, NATPE president-CEO. Bommel will officially join NATPE in September.

The announcement follows NATPE’s announcement in March that Perth was extending his contract through February 2016 as head of NATPE, during which he would oversee the transition to new leadership and then join NATPE’s board of directors at the expiration of his contract. This was all part of a succession plan the association said was “designed to sustain the organization’s momentum, and to ensure a seamless transition.”

“Over the last three years, NATPE has experienced a re-birth, and the response to our recent events is extremely gratifying,” Perth said. “Industry leaders that represent diverse yet increasingly interdependent businesses realize the international benefit and relevance of participating with NATPE, because they value our complete dedication to content. Without a doubt, content across every platform is the single most important factor in the growth of the global entertainment community.”

Perth continued, “I am very pleased that after interviewing many candidates, the board and I have selected JP to fill this newly created position. He is highly qualified to serve NATPE and its members in the most effective ways possible. JP and I will be working closely together so that he is able to learn every aspect of our association. JP has already served in a consultancy capacity with our organization, so that experience provides a head start on the learning curve.  He has talent, experience and drive, and I’m confident he will be instrumental in continuing our commitment to being nimble and always dedicated to content.”

Prior to joining NATPE, Bommel was the founder of Barton Creek International, which developed global events and created strategic partnerships and, before that, he was vice president, business development, entertainment for Reed Midem from 2005 through 2013, where he was responsible for sales activity and new business development for entertainment conferences such as MIPTV/MIPCOM and MIDEM (music). He previously was vice president, global marketing for EMI/Capitol, Sony Music and BMG.

Bommel received his education in Paris and holds both U.S. and EU citizenship.
