Pioneering ‘New Journalist’ Tom Wolfe Dies

His hyperbolic, stylized writing work was a gleeful fusillade of exclamation points, italics and improbable words. An ingenious phrase maker, he helped brand such expressions as “radical chic” for rich liberals’ fascination with revolutionaries; and the “Me” generation, defining the self-absorbed baby boomers of the 1970s. He was 88.

Symptoms At NBC Hint At Larger Sickness

Something is wrong at NBC, and by the traditional standard that the person at the top sets the tone and bears ultimate responsibility, it’s hard to absolve NBC Chairman Andy Lack. Given NBC’s prominence, its foibles hurt not only the network itself, its own journalists, and its viewers. Such self-sabotage also hurts American journalism overall at a time when there are more than enough external enemies waiting to pounce.

Stories That Touch Hearts Are Gold For Tegna

Heart Threads started as a Facebook feature at various Tegna stations highlighting the best in people and then was spotlighted on air, has become something much bigger. Tegna took the individual stories, re-packaged them with Heart Threads branding, and added music and text for all of  the group’s stations to share. Now Tegna is starting to monetize the Heart Threads stories, developing a new digital revenue stream and a new advertising opportunity for customers that want to be aligned with feel-good content.

‘Megyn Kelly Today’ Boosts NBC Bottom Line

Megyn Kelly Today has become something of a punching bag since it premiered in the 9 a.m. hour last September, with critics bashing the show’s format and ratings.
