Since its push into original shows kicked off in earnest with the 2013 debut of House of Cards, Netflix has hit the fast-forward button. Last year, it put out 450 hours of original programming, compared to 401 from Time Warner’s HBO. This year, both companies say they expect to release roughly 600 hours of original material.

The streaming-video service reported better profit than it expected in the first quarter on strong new member additions, but its weak outlook for members in the current quarter pushed shares down 13%  in after-hours trade.

The chairman of the FCC  said Netflix throttling its own video over mobile networks does not violate net neutrality. “It is outside of open Internet. We do not regulate edge providers,” FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler told reporters Thursday.

We shouldn’t necessarily believe all of the talk about Netflix and other streaming services mean the ultimate end of cable as we know it. It’s possible consumers will want as much quality programming as they can get. In that world, Netflix simply becomes another successful premium channel — a variation on HBO or Showtime.

The streaming service is taking away viewers for sure, but a new study finds its audience is that of a mid-size cable network and that the service accounts for only about half of TV’s declines.

Starting with its revival of the old ABC sitcom Fuller House today, the streaming service has lined up shows harking back to the ’80s and ’90s, meant for family watching.

The steaming site ranks No. 1 in total day in the U.S. in the fourth-quarter of 2015, reports a top researcher at Turner Networks, based on an analysis of the subscription service’s numbers.

Subscription streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu and Amazon take up nearly two-thirds of all online viewing, according to a new report. Streaming services have a 65% share of all online video viewing — with video sharing sites like YouTube and Vine at a “surprisingly low” share of 19% of total viewing, according to media researcher RealityMine.

Streaming TV has gotten popular as several online services such as Netflix make past seasons of TV shows available for binge-watching, while Hulu offers episodes from the current season. Now, some television companies are balking at giving viewers timely access to shows. The big worry: Making streaming TV too pleasant might encourage viewers to cut back or drop their cable service.

Analysts at MoffettNathanson have reduced their target price for Netflix by $13 per share, from $98 to $85. The firm still has the stock labeled “Neutral.” Netflix stock is down 22% year-to-date in 2016, which is the opposite of its prior-year positive trajectory.

Netflix is widening its role as an original producer and distributor for independent films with five new features that will be simultaneously released in 190 countries.

Netflix added 1.56 million U.S. subscribers from October through December, slightly below what management had predicted. It marked the second-straight quarter that Netflix’s subscriber gains in the U.S. have disappointed. But international growth topped the company’s projections to give Netflix nearly 75 million worldwide subscribers through December.

Although Netflix’s strategy is not without a fair amount of risk, it just keeps working — and the company’s prospects are steadily brightening.

While conventional wisdom has it that broadcast TV is on the ropes thanks to Netflix and other SVOD outlets, NBC’s ratings guru made a strong case for his network’s continued resiliency during a “reality check” about the state of the current media environment at the Television Critic Association’s winter press tour. To make his point, Wurtzel shared data from Symphony Advanced Media, which has been tracking Netflix ratings metrics for the notoriously tight-lipped streaming service.

Now that Netflix has nearly the whole world in its hands, what will it do for its next act? Well, how about launching streaming service in China, for one thing? And how about investing even more heavily in original programming and hammering out more global content rights deals, for another?

With its deal to provide reruns of its shows to Netflix having expired, the CW Network is looking at various options including aligning itself with another streaming service, the network’s top executive say.

Netflix members watched 12 billion hours of video in the fourth quarter of 2015, up 45% from a year earlier, CEO Reed Hastings said Wednesday. “We’re at the start of a global revolution,” he said, speaking at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Netflix shares performed better than any other company in the S&P 500, with rival Amazon in second place.
