Networks Grapple With How To Cover Trump Arraignment

The judge who will oversee Donald Trump’s arraignment on Tuesday says that cameras are a no-no in the courtroom and the courthouse. In fact, reporters won’t even be allowed to use their cellphones and other electronic equipment inside the courthouse, per an order from the chief district judge of the Florida federal court. Meanwhile, Magistrate Judge Jonathan Goodman, who will preside over the arraignment, has rejected a media coalition request for limited camera access before the proceedings, as well as to make audio available afterward. There will be an overflow room with a video feed, but reporters will have to run outside the courthouse to provide any updates on what is happening inside.

With the appointment of three executives — Amy Entelis (pictured), Virginia Moseley and Eric Sherling — to lead CNN in the wake of the departure of boss Chris Licht, every major cable and broadcast news network is now run, at least in part, by women. They include Kimberly Godwin of ABC News, Rashida Jones of MSNBC, Rebecca Blumenstein of NBC News, Wendy McMahon of CBS News and Suzanne Scott of Fox News Media.

NBC News on Tuesday that Peter Klein is joining the news organization as an executive editor of investigations. In this role, Klein will focus on the core investigative team and its mandate to break major news on the biggest stories in the news cycle and guide ambitious, high-impact enterprise reporting. He will work closely with national security senior executive editor David Rohde on joint investigations, exclusives and scoops.

NBC’s ‘Nightly News’ Gets New Logo With Digital Viewers In Mind

Lester Holt has a new way of delivering headlines to the NBC Nightly News crowd. NBC News is updating the look of its venerable evening newscast, which has been on the air since 1970 and hasn’t undergone a significant overhaul of its graphics since Brian Williams sat in the anchor chair. The new presentation will move away from traditional colors associated with evening news programs in favor of purple and a warm blue, says Marc Greenstein, senior vice president of design and product for NBC News and MSNBC. Also on tap: a new “N” that can be used in innovative fashion on the many new screens on which Nightly plays in the era of digital video.

George Watson, a former Washington bureau chief, White House correspondent and vice president for ABC News, died Thursday, a network spokesperson announced. He was 86. After serving as a correspondent and bureau chief in Moscow and London, where he covered major events in Asia, Africa and the Middle East, Watson returned to the U.S. in 1975 as ABC News’ White House correspondent. A year later, he was named Washington bureau chief and vice president, a role he held two different times, spanning 12 years total.
