Univision Communications is rebooting its UniMás network with a focus on live entertainment in the shape of sports, news and reality. May 13 is also premiere day for a 10 p.m. newscast on UniMás. And it’s rebranding its Univision Deportes network to TUDN.
The first season of Netflix’s Narcos will air on Univision leading up to the global debut of the second season only on Netflix. And UniMás will air the first season of Netflix’s Spanish-language series Club De Cuervos.
No. 2 network Telemundo has the No. 1 program in Cielos, and UniMas has the second-ranked show with its Liga MX coverage. But top-ranked Univision still airs five of the top 10.
With the Spanish-language television space heating up, industry leader Univision Communications Inc. is making an aggressive move to solidify its dominance. On Monday, the media company plans to rename its secondary broadcast network UniMas, which translates loosely as Univision Plus, underlining its ties to its hugely popular sister network Univision.
Univision is set to refocus its No. 2 broadcast network to target U.S. Hispanic millennials. UniMás will skew even younger than TeleFutura and aim more at male viewers.
