NEWS ANALYSIS

The Growth Of Sinclair’s Conservative News Empire

The company has achieved formidable reach by focussing on small markets where its TV stations can have a big influence. It’s unclear whether Sinclair is attempting to influence the politics of its viewers or simply appealing to positions that viewers may already have — or both. Sinclair’s stations – there are often several in the same broadcast area, branded as local ABC, CBS, NBC, or Fox affiliates – enjoy the trust of viewers because they appear independent, even though much of the content is dictated at a national level

Reporting Goes On At Newsrooms Hit By Michael

In the wake of Hurricane Michael, many journalists in the Florida panhandle are living through the same nightmare as other local residents, and working in incredibly difficult conditions. Power grids are down. Communications are spotty. Some local newsrooms suffered severe damage. So did the homes of some of the reporters.

COMMENTARY

Why So Many Journalists Are At Risk Today

The recent murders of journalists around the world are the consequence of the clash between a 21st century technological revolution, which has made it possible to obtain and spread information in new ways, and a 21st century offshore banking revolution, which has made it possible to steal money in new ways, to hide it in new ways and to use it to maintain power. Often, it is journalists, especially investigative journalists, who are caught in the fault lines between them.

Reporters Trying To Reach Michael’s Worst-Hit Areas

Television journalists standing out in the rain and wind is a staple of hurricane coverage. Some viewers love it, others think it’s ridiculous. Trump Loses His Primetime Spot On Fox News

In a crucial period with the midterms less than a month away, some in the White House are worried that the president is losing a primetime megaphone to his base. As Trump has ramped up his rally schedule ahead of the midterms, viewership numbers for the raucous primetime events have been roughly similar to — sometimes dipping below — Fox News’ regular programming, and the network has recently stopped airing most evening events in full.
