News Director

KWWL, Allen Media’s successful NBC affiliate in Waterloo, Iowa, is seeking a News Director, a veteran, dynamic leader for its news operation.

KWWL serves Iowa’s second largest DMA.  We need someone who can train, coach and inspire our journalists to create and deliver great stories in a multi-platform environment.  Our news director must know the importance of delivering on the brand promise and forging a strong connection with our viewers and users to grow ratings.

Responsibilities:

  • Foster a performance culture with an emphasis on winning, excellence and innovation.
  • Communicate the vision and strategy to newsroom and provide the daily direction on major stories, weather events and breaking news.
  • Ensure ethical, balanced presentation through compliance with Allen Media policy, FCC policy, federal and state laws, industry standards and our brand promise.
  • Strong recruiter and team builder
  • Prepare and execute annual newsroom financial plan.

Qualifications:

  • Broad understanding of newsroom operations and equipment.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven leadership which empowers others. Ability to resolve conflict quickly and directly.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in newsroom management.
  • Strategic thinking – can identify market opportunities and capitalize on them.
  • Demonstrated team builder

Executive Producer

KWWL is seeking a take charge leader to help guide our team and help manage our multi-platform news products.

This manager will serve as an editorial decision maker. Excellent news judgement is needed for this fast- paced environment and multi-city market.

The successful candidate must be able to identify great stories, create urgency and showcase stories in a memorable way.

The Executive Producer will partner with the Assistant News Director and the News Director to execute a vision and strategic plan for success in daily weather, severe weather, breaking news and the big story every day while assisting with the management of day-to-day operations.

You will work with producers and anchors to showcase and execute the presentation of newscasts, while also doing the same for web and social media.

The Executive Producer will have a creative vision for the use of writing, video, graphics and other production elements to tell great stories, employing all of our technology on all of our platforms including our Storm Chaser and our drone.

KWWL is a continuous news source with an immediate deadline culture.

The Executive Producer will oversee and be in constant contact with those involved in our newsgathering and delivery process.

You will be responsible for making immediate decisions on how stories and content will be presented.

Applicants must have 3 to 5 years producing experience with a strong desire to further their career in a management position.

Weekend Anchor/Reporter

KWWL, the NBC affiliate serving eastern Iowa is seeking an experienced, Anchor/Reporter for our weekend evening newscasts.

If you’re passionate about news, love story telling and have some TV reporting and anchoring experience, let’s talk!

Qualified candidates must have a degree in Journalism, Broadcasting, Communications or related field.

Qualified candidates must have excellent writing and on-camera skills.

You’ll have a producer and a team of folks working with you on our highly competitive Saturday and Sunday newscasts.

We’re looking for a serious, creative journalist who is as comfortable in a live ad-lib situation as they are reading a prompter.

You’ll anchor our weekend evening newscasts, report three days a week and represent the station at tons of community events.
