Weekend Anchor/Reporter

WMC-TV, has an immediate opening for a morning, weekend Anchor/Reporter. The top candidate will be a dynamic, high-level storyteller with an investigative mind.

This is a high-profile position that requires initiative, leadership and impact.

You must work with a sense of immediacy—independently and as a team.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop sources within the community to gain unique insight and reports on timely, important and impactful issues. The ideal candidate will also have experience in investigative and data-driven journalism.
  • Produce and deliver day-turns stories, as well as occasional special event coverage. Our anchors are expected to write and contribute daily to newscasts and across digital platforms.
  • Understand our DMA, key target audiences and where they live.
  • Strong research skills, ability to employ critical thinking skills to dig and go “beyond the press release” and/or confirm incoming news tips via email or social media.

If you wait for the news to come to you, this is not the job for you. You are expected to find the impactful stories behind press releases. There is no room in this newsroom for bad attitudes or people who rely on the Assignment Desk for story ideas.


  • Minimum two years of newsroom experience preferred. A college degree in journalism or related field.
  • Must have the desire to win and the ability to reflect on your work and apply feedback.
  • A strong candidate will have an established and responsible presence on digital platforms, including station website, social media and OTT.
  • Understanding of and adherence to AP Style (for digital platforms) and broadcast writing (for television).
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), proven news judgement, ethics and integrity.
  • Strong work ethic, organizational and leadership skills. Must be able to work quickly, make deadlines, multi-task and show composure, especially during breaking news.
  • Ability to work long hours/overtime, weekends, and overnights as needed for breaking news and specialized coverage.
  • Experienced in shooting and editing.

Investigative Reporter/MMJ

WMC-TV in Memphis, Tennessee seeks an experienced Investigative Reporter/MMJ to join our award-winning news team.

The successful candidate will research, develop, write and present investigative news stories on a long and short-term basis, as well as contribute research and analysis on major breaking news events.

The reporter will work with the special projects team as well as station management and legal department to conceptualize and produce content. Experience doing computer-assisted reporting research and database analysis is a plus.

Your responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) the following:

– Research, develop, write and produce ground-breaking investigative news stories

– Generate long and short-term investigative news projects

– Perform computer-assisted reporting research and database analysis

– Contribute research and analysis on major breaking news events

– Provide investigative content across all of WMC’s on-air and digital platforms

– Develop and maintain sources that will generate exclusive reports

– Conduct hidden-camera and surveillance operations

– Work with station management and corporate legal department conceptualizing and producing content


– Minimum of two years’ experience working as an investigative reporter or a four years as a General Assignment Reporter with a demonstrated history of turning investigative stories

– Understanding of computer-assisted reporting and working with database and spreadsheet programs

– Experience working with hidden cameras

– Willingness to work long hours and overtime

Newscast Producer

WMC, Action News 5 in Memphis, TN seeks a motivated, innovative, and aggressive newscast producer.

The qualified candidate will hunt for fresh and interesting content that holds the attention of our audience.

The producer must be a creative writer and meticulous fact-checker.

We look for producers who are naturally curious, enjoy working in a team environment, thrive on seeking the truth, and want to support a local community.

Your responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) the following:

– Responsible for the content and overall production of the local newscasts

– Oversee all details of the broadcast while working closely with all members of the news team

– Stack the rundown and manage the on-air broadcast from the control room

– Contribute story ideas for the newscast and work closely with reporters to execute those ideas

– Produce news content for all station distribution platforms – broadcast, digital, mobile


– BS/BA in Journalism/Communications or equivalent background

– Previous experience as an Associate Producer, Writer, or Line Producer a plus

– Flexibility with respect to scheduling and/or assigned work shifts

– Must be willing to work in Memphis, TN
