Alyssa Donovan Named WGN Midday And Evening News Weather Anchor

Nexstar’s Chicago independent WGN-TV has promoted Alyssa Donovan to a weather anchor effective April 29. Her forecasts will be seen on WGN Midday News at 11-1 p.m., as well as WGN Evening News at 5 p.m.

She joined the WGN Weather Center team as a reporter and fill-in meteorologist in 2021. She succeeds Chief Meteorologist Demetrius Ivory, who recently replaced longtime meteorologist Tom Skilling earlier this year.

“Alyssa has done an amazing job, since joining WGN-TV,” said Dominick Stasi, WGN news director. “Already an important part of our weather department, on-air presence, accuracy and teamwork make her the right choice as weather anchor.”

Donovan came to WGN from Scripps’ WRTV Indianapolis, where she spent three years as a reporter and meteorologist. Prior to WRTV, she worked at Scripps’ KSHB Kansas City, Mo., as a field reporter, covering severe weather and other wide-ranging stories.

As a weather forecaster at KXLY Spokane, Wash., she covered everything from wildfires to extreme flooding and record snowfalls.

Donovan got her start at the WEEK Peoria, Ill., as a reporter and weather forecaster.

A native of the northwest suburbs of Chicago, Donovan has a degree in broadcast journalism from Illinois State University. She also completed Mississippi State University’s Broadcast Meteorology program.
