Nexstar Fox affiliate WDAF Kansas City has promoted Jana Calkins to news director. She joined Fox4 in 1995 as an intern through the University of Kansas and began her full-time career there in February 1996.
Calkins has held several key positions, including producing the 10 p.m. news, serving as nightside executive producer until 2003, and morning executive producer for a decade, expanding the morning news from four to six hours. She has been assistant news director since 2013.
Calkins has led coverage of Kansas City’s major news stories, including World Series and Super Bowl championships. She played a key role in the evening news expansion and launched the station’s You Matter campaign, 4 The People public affairs program, and KC End Zone.
“Working alongside such a talented team and serving Kansas City viewers throughout my career has been an honor,” Calkins said. “I deeply value WDAF-TV’s legacy, and I’m thrilled to guide our Fox4 News team to further success.”
Tracy Brogden Miller, WDAF VP-GM, said: “We are thrilled to have Jana step into the role of news director. Her dedication and leadership have been instrumental in our growth. We look forward to seeing her continue to drive our news coverage to new heights.”
Calkins is a graduate of the University of Kansas and the Poynter Institute for Media Studies.
