‘Judy’ Hits 10-Week High

In an unexpected legal victory daytime court show Judge Judy jumped 7% to a 10-week high 4.5 live plus same day national Nielsen rating and blew right past syndie quiz sensation Jeopardy, which slipped 7% to a new season-low 4.1 in the session ending August 21. Judy, which has led the courtroom programs every week for the past 26 years was second only to access gameshow standout Family Feud on the overall chart. Feud inched up 2% to a 5.1.

Other daytime shows besides Judy generating ratings steam included talk leader Live with Kelly and Ryan, which strengthened 7% to a 1.5, with mostly repackaged episodes. Live has now finished first in talk 79 times in the last 100 weeks, including 26 ties with Dr. Phil.

Drew Barrymore also in reruns managed the biggest gain among talkers, surging 25% both week to week and year to year to a 0.5.

Magazine shows making the most positive Nielsen news were TMZ and Extra, which spiked 17% and 20% respectively.

The top talk shows for the week among women 25-54 were:

• Live with Kelly and Ryan (0.5, unchanged from the week before)
• Dr. Phil (0.4, unchanged)
• Kelly Clarkson (0.3, +50%), tied with Steve Wilkos (0.3, unchanged), Maury (0.3, unchanged) and Rachel Ray (0.3, unchanged)
