Talk shows had daytime’s hot hand in the mostly sluggish session ending Jan. 20, with seven of the top nine strips in the plus column. While in access, Daily Mail TV and Page Six TV clocked strong double-digit increases.
Dr. Phil was the leader in talk, holding steady at a 2.9 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, after notching a 26% spike the week before. The show also extended streak of weekly first-place finishes among talkers to 124.
Live with Kelly and Ryan jumped 5% to a second-place 2.3, matching its season high and tying Ellen DeGeneres, which also added 5% to a 2.3.
Maury moved up 7% to a new season high 1.5 and Steve Harvey’s Steve rounded out the Big 5, surging 8% to a 1.3 despite being in repeats for part of the week.
Among the recently red-hot magazines, the only gainers were Daily Mail TV— which soared 50% in the women 25-54 demo and delivered a 10% increase in households to a 1.1, shooting up 38% in the last three weeks while equaling its highest rating ever to tie Extra — and Page Six TV, which scored the group’s biggest percentage increase in households, strengthening 17% to a 0.7, while matching its best mark of the season and leaping 33% in the key female demo.
The only other mag up in households was leader Inside Edition, which picked up 6% to a 3.3.
The highest rated show of any type was Judge Judy which led the entire syndication field for a milestone 25th week in a row with a top-ranked 7.3.
