Baker Names Ex-Dish Lawyer To Staff

FCC Commissioner Meredith Atwell Baker will call on Brad Gillen for legal advice on broadcasting and cable matters. Gillen is a former Washington lawyer for the Dish satellite TV operator. Earlier, he worked for the law firm headed by former FCC Chairman Dick Wiley.

FCC Commissioner Meredith Atwell Baker has hired a Washington lawyer from the Dish Network to be her legal aide on broadcasting and cable matters.

Brad Gillen will join Baker’s staff on Nov. 9.

Prior to his stint as director of federal regulatory affairs for the satellite TV operator, Gillen was a communications attorney at Wiley Rein, a firm headed by former FCC Chairman Dick Wiley.

Barker, one of the commission’s two Republicans, also announced the appointments of Charles Mathias and Christi Shewman to her staff.

Mathias, who will handle wireless, international and public safety issues, is moving up from the FCC’s Wireless Bureau, where he was associate bureau chief.

Shewman, named legal advisor for wireless and universal service matters, has served in several capacities within the FCC Wireless Competition Bureau, including chief of the competition policy division.
