The Univision CEO tells the Commission on Presidential Debates it should add another debate featuring a bilingual moderator and suggests two of his own.
Falco Wants Debate With Hispanic Moderator
Randy Falco, president-CEO of Univision, wrote to the executive director of the Commission on Presidential Debates to express his displeasure with the lack of a Hispanic presidential debate moderators among those announced yesterday.
Saying the choices of CNN’s Candy Crowley, PBS’s Jim Lehrer and CBS’s Bob Schieffer means “millions of Hispanics … do not have a voice in the upcoming presidential debates.”
He had a suggestion: “We strongly believe that the commission should entertain the notion of adding an additional debate that will speak directly to this burgeoning audience so influential to the presidential dialog and outcome in order to maximize Hispanic voter participation.”
And Falco offered suggestions as to who could moderate such an additional debate: the co-anchors of Univision’s Noticiero Univision: Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas. The two, he said “have a broad understanding of the domestic and international issues impacting this country” and who, he added “understand the Hispanic community better than anyone else and are fully bilingual.”
