Gray Digital Exec Jason Effinger Leaving

The television group’s chief digital and media tech officer has been with the company for more than 20 years.

 

Jason Effinger, Gray Television’s executive vice president and chief digital and media technology officer, will leave the company in the coming weeks.

According to Gray, “For more than 20 years, Jason has served in numerous news and operations positions in Gray stations across the country as well as Gray management, including general manager, regional vice president, and senior vice president for media and technology. Upon leading the Company to reach several recent milestones, Jason decided to leave his highly demanding position to spend more time with his family.

Gray Television President-CEO Hilton Howell said: “Jason has dedicated over 20 years to Gray Television, as station and industry leader, founder of MomsEveryday and digital entrepreneur. He leaves a legacy of innovation and growth, having helped transform Gray into a diverse and prosperous media company. His service to us and our industry has been exemplary and we all owe him and his family our deepest gratitude.”

Effinger commented: “Gray has allowed me to live out my professional dream, and for that and more, I will be ever grateful.”

I am not sure Gray is doing anything but the most basic things in digital. Nothing unique. Looks like they are cutting overhead for a sale.

They need to sell..They overpaid for their properties with novices leading their efforts, have an egomaniac as their CEO.. have for the most part C and C- students leading their stations and have dropped the ball big time on digital…A bad investment for stockholders..

Syncbak, in which Gray has a significant equity stake, is the best TV news streaming site in the business, far outperforming NewsON. Effinger serves on Syncbak’s BOD in addition to his Gray gig. I wouldn’t say Gray is an also-ran in digital by any means.
