WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

Mags Perk Up While Other Genres Stay Flat

Except for the entertainment news shows, most of first run treads water in the week ending June 29, held down by soccer and tennis.

World Cup soccer and Wimbledon tennis sapped ratings for most syndicated talkers in the week ending June 29. However, the majority of top access entertainment magazines strengthened with coverage of the Daytime Emmy Awards and the arrest of actor Shia LaBeouf.

Extra and The Insider each improved 8% from the week before and TMZ advanced 6%. Leader Entertainment Tonight held steady, while its weekly edition rose 7%.

In the meantime, only two of the top 13 talk shows were up from the prior session: Rachael Ray, which rallied 9% with an almost all-rerun week, and Maury, which gained 6% with primarily repeat episodes.

Dr. Phil, with a week of encore telecasts, and Live with Kelly & Michael tied for first place in talk with a 2.5 rating. This marks the third straight week that Live was either No. 1 or tied for the lead.

Ellen remained at its season low set the week before and landed in a third-place dead heat with Maury.

Syndications’ highest rated program, as usual, was Judge Judy, which climbed 4% week to week and 11% year to year, despite showing only previously aired episodes.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Among the game shows, Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud were the only ones to post week-to-week gains (3% and 2%, respectively).
