WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

‘Phil’ And ‘Judy’ Shine, No Joke

In the week ending April 1, those two were among a handful of first-run syndicated shows to report ratings gains.

Dr. Phil was the only talk show in the top 10 moving up in the session ending April 1, even though it was in reruns for part of the week.

Phil spiked 7% to a three-week high 3.2 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, increasing its advantage over the field to more than a full point, and led the talkers for the 82nd week in a row with only one tie.

Live with Kelly and Ryan aired repackaged episodes all week, but still snared second place despite giving back 9% to a 2.1.

Ellen DeGeneres, also in repeats, sank 18% to a new season low 1.8, finishing behind Kelly and Ryan for the fourth week in a row.

One of the very few top talkers managing to avoid a decline was Steve Harvey’s Steve, which was in reruns for a portion of the week, but still held steady at a 1.3, tying Wendy Williams, which slipped 7% to a 1.3.

Turning to the first-run newcomers, Daily Mail TV dropped 9% to a 1.0 in households and fell 17% among women 25-54, while rival Page Six TV held steady at 0.7 in households, despite being preempted, and rose 25% in the key demo to a 0.5, tying Daily Mail.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Among magazines, nothing went up. Entertainment Tonight and Inside Edition tied for first at a 3.0, although ET lost 12% and Edition declined 3%.

The highest rated show in syndication for the sixth straight week — and the only program to reach the heady 7 level in the ratings — was Judge Judy, which jumped 6% for both the week and year to a 7.1 although it was in rerurns for part of the frame.

In addition, Judy was the only one of the six nationally rated court shows to grow for either the week or the year.

The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:

  • Dr. Phil (1.3, +8% from the week before)
  • Live with Kelly and Ryan (1.0, unchanged)
  • Ellen DeGeneres (0.8, -27%), tied with Maury (0.8, -11%) and Wendy Williams (0.8, -11%)

In the household rating rankings that follow, % change is from the previous week; * indicates a new season-high rating; ** indicates a new season low; NC indicates no change from the previous week; NA mean not applicable.
