Talkers Head Into Holidays Feeling Jolly

All of the chat fests were either up or flat in the week ending Dec. 14, with Jerry Springer getting the biggest gift, a bounce of 18% from the previous week.

Ratings for talk shows heated up in the week ending Dec. 14, with eight of the top 10 moving up, two holding steady and none declining.

Jerry Springer had the biggest week-to-week improvement, jumping 18% to a 1.3. Other gainers included Ellen DeGeneres, up 3% to a new season high 3.0; Steve Harvey, which matched its season high 2.0 with a 5% increase; Maury, up 6% to a 1.9; Wendy Williams, which added 6% to a 1.7; Dr. Oz, which equaled its best rating of the season with a 7% surge to a 1.6; Rachael Ray, which rose 7% to a 1.5; and Steve Wilkos, which gained 8% to a 1.4.

At the top of the talk list, Dr. Phil extended its winning streak to 15 consecutive weeks with a 3.2, and Live with Kelly & Michael was a strong second at a 3.1.

Elsewhere, Judge Judy easily ruled the court shows, moving up to a 7.1, and finishing a tenth of a point behind Wheel of Fortune for overall first place in syndication.

Among magazines, Extra was up the most, hitting a new season high 1.7 with 6% growth from the prior week.
