WEWS Unveils Mobilecast For Browns Fans

On Monday, Sept. 9, at 7 a.m., Scripps-Owned ABC affiliate WEWS Cleveland (DMA 18) gave the city’s sports fans a new place to engage and celebrate their beloved Browns. That exclusive destination was DAWGS on the Run, a first-of-its-kind interactive mobilecast.  Hosted by the station’s sports duo Andy Baskin and Mike Cairns, the weekly mobilecast focused on fan interaction and reaction to all-things Browns, particularly their week one showdown with the Miami Dolphins.

“There are no rules with DAWGS on the Run,” says Baskin. “It’s unlike any other sports program.” Audiences connected with Baskin and his guests via Skype, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google and phone. That guest list included former Cleveland Browns star Josh Cribbs, who will appear every week as a special DAWGS on the Run insider. Local favorites Kenny Roda along with Matt Loede from 92.3 The Fan also joined the team.

“This is a breakthrough mobile program designed for fans on the go,” says Sam Rosenwasser, WEWS VP-GM.

Browns backers from anywhere can simply access the newsnet5.com app and join the conversation live. Each episode can be seen afterwards on demand via newsnet5.com/DAWGSontherun.

“With DAWGS on the Run, we’ve built a brand new digital destination for Browns fanatics,” adds Rosenwasser.  “It’s all about satisfying their thirst for interactive coverage the morning after the game. We can’t wait for week two.”

Not a Browns fan, but my friends on Facebook who are — were mighty unhappy with the first game of the season. A great app needs a team that fans haven’t given up on.
