WISH’S New Programming Includes CW

The LIN Indianapolis station that loses its 58-year CBS affiliation at the end of the year, unveils its new programming lineup that includes The CW in primetime.

LIN-owned WISH Indianapolis (DMA 27) announced Monday that effective Jan. 1, 2015, the former CBS affiliate’s new programming lineup will include The CW in primetime, plus a new morning game shows and afternoon talk shows. CW programming has been carried by Tribune Broadcasting’s WTTV, which in August was awarded the market’s CBS affiliation held by LIN’s WISH for 58 years as a result of the network’s hardball reverse comp negotiations. That change also takes effect Jan. 1.

“We welcome the CW network to our new primetime,” said Les Vann, WISH president-GM. “This original and dynamic line-up of programming will drive new audiences to WISH-TV and our newscasts, and deliver key demographics to our advertisers.”

In addition to The CW primetime, WISH adds Family Feud, hosted by Steve Harvey; The Wendy Williams Show; and Who Wants to be a Millionaire, hosted by Terry Crews to its lineup.

The station said its new schedule “also provides WISH-TV the independence and flexibility to continue to enhance its commitment to local news and local programming.”

Earlier in the month, WISH announced additional increases in its total hours of news and local programming to 61 hours per week. On Jan. 1, WISH will expand its 24-Hour News 8 at Daybreak by two-hours, from 4:30 to 9 a.m. 24-Hour News 8 at Noon will expand by 30-minutes to 1 p.m. The station’s 6 p.m. newscast will expand by 30 minutes to 7 p.m., its late newscast will expand one additional hour, from 10 to 11:30 p.m., and 24-Hour News 8’s Daybreak on the weekends will expand by an hour, from 6 to 10 a.m.

Amazing they would take CW after what happened with CBS.

WTTV, by taking CBS, left The CW without a home. WISH, by taking The CW, effectively swapped networks with WTTV.

They’d be better off taking Decades as their network.

No, and I’ll tell you why. Does it make sense for WISH to take the CBS Owned diginet Decades when it was CBS that pulled their affiliation from WISH in the first place? Not to me!

even better Tribune sold the affiliation to them. Wonder why that’s not reported here?

Tribune owns WTTV. The CW is 50% owned by CBS and 50% owned by Warner Bros. Any affiliation agreement for The CW involves 3 Parties: The TV Station, CBS, and Warner Bros. WISH is owned by LIN, so it was LIN, CBS, and Warner Bros. that did the new affiliation contract for The CW and WISH. As for Tribune, they cannot sell anything they don’t own; They own WTTV, but NOT the affiliation od The CW!!!
