WJBK Detroit Supports Komen Race For The Cure

On Saturday, May 18, Fox O&O WJBK Detroit (DMA 11) supported the 22nd annual Susan G. Komen Detroit Race for the Cure.

More than 30,000 people took to the streets to raise funds to help fight breast cancer.

WJBK’s Deena Centofanti and Jay TowersWJBK broadcast live for three hours from the race, anchoring a good portion of its morning news on location, both on the ground in the middle of a crowd of 30,000 and from the roof of the Hockeytown Café,  a restaurant located at the starting line. It also provided viewers with a bird’s-eye view from its helicpoter.

The race funds breast cancer screening and treatment for those in Detroit who need it most — low-income families who have no insurance or are underinsured.

This year’s event raised more than $2 million and 75% helps the Detroit community’s medically underserved. The remaining 25% funds global, groundbreaking breast cancer research.
