Gray Soapes Named VP-GM of WCBD

Nexstar Media Group today appointed Gray Soapes VP-GM of NBC-CW affiliate WCBD Charleston, S.C. (DMA 94). He will assume his new responsibilities immediately and report to Bill Sally, Nexstar SVP and regional manager.

WCBD was part of Nexstar’s $4.6 billion acquisition of Media General that closed on Jan. 17.

Soapes, a Charleston native, returns home where he began his broadcasting career over two decades ago as an advertising account executive in radio and later in television at WCSC. He has experience in local and national sales management, new business development, local programming and strategic planning across multiple media platforms.

He most recently was general sales manager at WMBF Myrtle Beach-Florence, S.C. Prior to that, Soapes was general sales manager of WCWJ Jacksonville, Fla. He also served as local and national sales manager of WCWJ prior to his promotion to general sales manager.

Earlier in his career, Soapes held the positions of regional account manager at WTLV Jacksonville, Fla., and WFTS Tampa-St. Petersburg, Fla.
