Ed Chapuis Named KGTV News Director

He’s joining the Scripps ABC Affiliate in San Diego from KTXL Sacramento, Calif., where he’s been ND since 2013.

Ed Chapuis, an experienced newsroom leader, is the new news director for Scripps-owned ABC affiliate KGTV San Diego (DMA 28), effective Sept. 25.

Chapuis is coming to KGTV from KTXL Sacramento, Calif., where he has been the vice president and news director since 2013. He’s credited with building the Fox affiliate’s reputation in the market. He also has 15 years of leading legacy newsrooms in San Francisco and Sacramento.

“Ed has a proven track record in building strong broadcast and digital newsrooms, based on a foundation of solid journalism and storytelling,” said Joel Davis, KGTV VP-GM.

Chapuis has earned three national Edward R. Murrow Awards, a national George Foster Peabody Award and two regional Emmy Awards.

Prior to his current role at KTXL, Chapuis spent a decade at KTVU San Francisco as news director and manager of digital.

Prior to that, he was the news director and website manager for KCRA Sacramento. His career had other stops in Las Vegas as news director at KTNV, another Scripps station, and at WMAQ in Chicago.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and communications from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
