Cox Names Jason Meder GM Of WFTV-WRDQ

He joins the Orlando ABC-indie duo from a 16-year stint at the company’s Tampa, Fla., radio division.

Cox Media Group on Monday appointed Jason Meder general manager of its ABC affiliate WFTV and independent WRDQ, both in Orlando, Fla. (DMA 18).

In this new role, Meder will report to and work directly with Paul Curran, Cox market VP, on the daily operations of the TV stations and Cox’s radio properties, as well as begin the planning stages of integrating these properties in Central Florida, the company said.

A graduate of the University of Central Florida, Meder comes to WFTV-WRDQ after 16 years at CMG’s Tampa radio division, most recently as director of sales.

Radio Guy running TV stations? Right!!!!!`…Just shows you how all significant decisions are made at the corporate level and the GM managers anymore just nod their heads

    He likely understands media inventory, how to motivate people, revenue via content sponsorships, multiple format/audience marketing, FCC license obligations, and coming from radio, probably resourceful out-of-the-box. TV probably needs more leaders from adjacent businesses (and fewer retreads).

    @HillbillyCheer if you were truly in Industry you would know that Nick Trigony was brought into Cox in the 80s over Radio, TV, Syndication (Entertainment Tonight) and Motion Pictures. He was recruited from Radio and is responsible for bringing the Cox TV stations up to the News Leadership positions they continue to enjoy today.

He will do fine and how he empowers and engages the staff will do more than being an “old fart” from television that still believes what worked 20 years ago still works today. Congrats Jason on your new position….
