Journalist Tom Foreman will speak about augmented reality in TV reporting at TVNewsCheck’s May 31 event in Atlanta. NewsTECHFutures To Feature CNN’s Foreman
Tom Foreman, an Emmy Award-winning CNN journalist whose work mines the cutting edge of augmented reality in reporting, will be the featured speaker at TVNewsCheck’s inaugural NewsTECHFutures Retreat.
The May 31 event at Atlanta’s Omni Hotel CNN Center will bring together engineering leaders to discuss emerging news technology issues, chiefly among them the IP transition, artificial intelligence and augmented reality.
The day will kick off with an off-the-record technology tour of CNN and subsequent on-site Q&A session led by Turner’s Bob Hesskamp, head of engineering; Michael Koetter, SVP digital media systems; and Matthew Holcombe, SVP production broadcast engineering.
Washington, D.C.-based Foreman, whose work appears across the CNN programming spectrum from The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer to Anderson Cooper 360, will showcase and discuss his own AR reporting work, planning for AR in the newsroom and his role in the development of an immersive, 3D virtual studio at CNN. That studio has taken viewers into space to study satellites, onto distant battlefields to promote a better understanding of dangerous conflicts and has facilitated a deep dive analysis on the 2016 election cycle, among other projects.

Additional programming at the retreat will tackle live news in an IP environment, implementing AI for news and the trustworthiness of the cloud for playout.
